Way back at the beginning of touring…..
After a gap year spent in Italy, Alison returned home to study Home Economics at Sheffield Hallam University. After missing out on signing up to any clubs and societies she decided to join the Uni Entertainments committee. One of the areas where the committee needed volunteers was to fulfill the rider requirements of the touring artists and Alison, along with Sarah, Wendy, and Lisa, all had their first taste of meeting artists’ culinary flights of fancy at the Students Union main hall. Very occasionally artists would arrive with their own caterers and it was achance conversation and exchange of telephone numbers that found Alison packing to start her first tour with Joe Jackson in the 1980’s for a company called Just Desserts. Alison got the touring bug and worked for the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna and David Bowie on their incredible tours.
In 1993, Saucery Catering was founded. Debbie at Just Desserts had decided to hang up her catering apron, and, with a tour already in the pipeline with Level 42, Alison took the step of starting her own company since with a six year history of working with the band she didn’t want to let them down..
25 years later….
Yep! Still going!!
Although by now immune to the call of the tour bus, Alison does not tour but the company does. Supported by a small coterie of reliable and talented chefs Saucery continues tobe a long established participant on the tour catering scene. The artists continue to impress… Brian Wilson, Jackson Browne, David Gilmour to name but a few. And, on regular occasions Alison continues to make anappearance at one offs and the larger friendly festivals all over the U.K.Focusing on good food, we try our hardest to use locally sourced meat and vegetables from the green fields of Herefordshire where possible. And many a show has a crumble made from damsons or apples fresh from the trees in the orchard.
